The analysis of the dynamics of the braking system brought the "brake plate cooler" into being, especially with the conversion of the thermal energy during the braking effect and with the heat radiation that spreads to the neighboring components.
It has been observed that, for various reasons, in recent years braking systems have lost some of the balance sheet features that they had already achieved in the past, reasons such as: speed improvements; Review of manufacturers' expenses; the use of synthetic materials.
Ducabike's claim was to develop a dual-function device that on the one hand reduces the heat radiation emitted by the pads in the direction of the brake calliper and oil and on the other hand generates cooling for the pad in order to avoid critical temperatures.
Ducabike has therefore produced special hybrid pads that consist of two parts: one made of special thermal steel, the other made of a light alloy with a high heat exchange rate.
The project was carried out after a year of testing and comparisons were made before the final version was released.
The heat sinks were developed with two different metal elements in order to optimize the thermal insulation of the brake pad by the brake caliper and its cooling.
The main body of the heat sink consists of a special thermal steel with high thermal conductivity.
The material is first laser cut and then CNC machined in the workshops, the slots have two purposes, the first to reduce the contact surface, the second to allow the hot air that is formed inside the brake piston cavity by cutting the hot Chamber effect diminishes, and heat dissipation in the piston and oil.
The main body of the steel sink is connected to a light metal heat sink made of a special aluminum with high thermal conductivity, which has the task of supporting the process of heat dissipation.
The tests have a reduction in the temperature of the brake pads by a maximum of 20 degrees and a significant improvement in braking, incredible stability at the start of braking, an optimal rollback value of the brake pads.
In addition, the brake pads have shown that they have a longer service life of 25% due to a lower temperature load.
The project was developed for more than a year and during that time different motorcycles were used and always the same result was achieved.
The development of the project took a year, starting with the selection of materials and their manufacturing process.
Different configurations and different material treatments have been tried, data collection tools and special thermal cameras have been used to view heat propagation by examining different points on the caliper and brake pad.
It has tested over 500 hours on the racetrack and 20,000 km on the road.
In total, the product was tested on six different motorcycles and under different operating conditions.
